Orkney is the perfect location for a relaxing holiday, although if you are looking for activities, there is much to see and do.
We are situated no more than 5 minutes’ drive from Swannay, Hundland and Boardhouse Lochs. Orkney is world-renowned for its excellent trout fishing where you can fish free, although, we would recommend you join the Orkney Trout Fishing Association. We can help you with this if you require. We can also arrange boat hire for you.
Orkney offers wonderful scenic coastal walks with dramatic cliffs, stunning beaches and beautiful geos. You will most certainly enjoy an abundance of wildlife and flowers, maybe even catching a glimpse of the odd whale, porpoise or dolphin, if you are lucky. If birdwatching is your passion, you will find an abundance of species in Orkney, from our coastal puffins, kittiwakes, fulmars and razorbills to the wetland curlews, redshanks, oystercatchers, whimbrel and dumlin. You may also be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of buzzards, sparrowhawks and short-eared owls. It is possible to walk to the coastal cliffs from the house, with the Birsay Loons Reserve and the Loch of Banks being only 5 to 10 minutes’ drive away.
Orkney is a popular destination for shooting holidays where your morning and afternoon shoots can offer greylag and pinkfooted geese, wigeon, teal and mallard ducks, as well as a surprising number of pheasants. If archaeology is of interest to you, Neolithic Orkney is your perfect location, with Skara Brae, Ring of Brodgar, Ness of Brodgar and Maeshowe all on our doorstep. In addition, Kirbuster Farm Museum, Brough of Gurness, Brough of Birsay, Earl’s Palace, and Barony Mill are all worth a visit and less than five minutes from the house..
